Kenya is the fourth largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa and its power sector is one of solid performance with a steady growth trajectory. Kenya’s installed power generation capacity increased from 2,265MW in 2017 to 2,984MW as of June 2021, a 31.7% increase. The country aims to achieve “an installed power generation capacity, mostly from green sources, to 3,500MW by 2025, to about 17,760MW by 2030; with geothermal expected to contribute about 7,000MW” said Gordon Kihalangwa, Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Energy.
