PTT LNG RAYONG

EXERGY’s customer for this project was Samsung Engineering CO, that acted as EPC contractor for the final customer and user, PTT LNG.

Radial Outflow Turbine LNG application

Client name:
SAMSUNG ENGINEERING - final customer PTT LNG

Plant Location:
RAYONG, THAILAND

Date of implementation:
2019

Plant size:
5 MWe

Application:
HEAT RECOVERY GAS TURBINES

Gas turbines:
2x SOLAR MARS100

Heat source temperature (diathermic oil):
294°C - 140.8°C

Water or cooling agent:
COLD WATER FROM LNG REGASIFICATION CYCLE AS HEAT SINK

Efficiency gross:
23%

Installation:
OUTDOOR

PTT LNG wanted to increase the efficiency and the sustainability of its operations in its regasification terminal located in Rayong. EXERGY’s solution for this project is an ORC unit equipped with a Radial Outflow Turbine that recovers the exhaust heat downstream generated from the two Solar Mars 100 gas turbines installed in the LNG plant, to generate 5 MWe of electricity. The regassification process employs a significant amount of water, which is cooled from ambient temperature to approximately 5 °C. This water was, thus, available for feeding the condenser of the ORC in close loop, with no water consumption. In this case the cold water from the LNG regasification cycle as heat sink, was in a temperature range between 5-38 °C.
All the components of the ORC system for this project had to be compliant with API technical standards and this required EXERGY to work in close synergy with the internal manufacturing team to adapt to the market requirements. By exploiting a large amount of the residual heat, otherwise discharged by the gas turbine into atmosphere, the waste heat recovery system has helped increasing the efficiency of power production and reducing the environmental footprint of the power plant.
